Hospice - Memory Bears
VNA Hospice began a new project in January, 2006, that is so special. This project is the designing of Memory Bears. These precious bears will be made with loving care by hospice volunteers for families of those whose loved ones were cared for by our hospice program. Each bear is unique because it is created from an article of clothing of the deceased patient that will be selected and given to us by a loved one.
The guidelines for receiving a memory bear
- The patient must have been currently enrolled in the Clarion Forest VNA Hospice Program at the time of his or her death in order for the family to receive a bear.
- There are 15 volunteers who have agreed to make the bears. These volunteers are asked to have the bear completed from 6 months to 12 months once the bear has been requested by the family.
- The family will receive one bear at no cost. If more bears are requested, a minimal fee will be required for each additional bear.
A letter that explains this project is enclosed in the bereavement packet that is given to each family following the death of their loved one. If any hospice patient’s family has any questions concerning the making of a memory bear, please call Barb Dittman, 814-797-1492. We want to make a lasting memory for you of the loved one who was so special.
